Optical observations and dust modelling of comet 156P/Russell-LINEAR

Comet 156P/Russell-LINEAR is a short period Jupiter family comet with an orbital of 6.44 years. The results from spectroscopic, photometric, polarimetric observations and dust modelling studies are presented here. From the spectroscopic study, strong emissions CN(??=0), C3 (?4050 Å), C2(??=+1) C2(??=0) can be observed during both epochs our observations. Q(C2)/Q(CN) ratio classifies as typical comet. imaging data reveals presence jets. emission to have non-steady state outflow due these jets which subside in later epochs, resulting steady outflow. Polarimetric study at two different phase angles degree polarization comparable comets similar angles. Localized variations values coma. suggest high amount silicate/low absorbing material indicate coma dominated by higher large size grains low porosity having power law distribution index = 2.4. activity properties points similarity another comet, 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.
